Create conditions for a certification system for ecotourism in the BSR

Project description

According to the International Ecotourism Society, the growth of ecotourism industry is four times faster than that of traditional forms of tourism. Both Europe and the Baltic Sea region lack common and credible ecotourism certification system. Such a system would make it easier to develop high quality ecotourism and market the BSR as a tourist destination with a rich natural heritage. During meetings, seminars and workshops, project partners aimed to create a partnership that would identify strengths and weaknesses of the current certification systems in Europe and around the Baltic Sea. They would also determine the characteristics of a common ecotourism certification system and formulate a project that would develop a certification system adapted to the region’s needs.
