According to the Action Plan the Priority Area "Tourism" is to be implemented through two cooperative actions and three flagship projects. The flagship projects are in general to be seen as examples. Nonetheless the projects presented in the Action Plan have a high significance and mark the starting point for concrete action. Each flagship project is under the responsibility of a lead partner.

As the wording of the flagship projects in the Priority Area Tourism is relatively general and as the projects are interrelated, the coordinator and the lead partners have agreed on further specifications of the project descriptions. According to their joint understanding, the focus of flagship project 12.7 “Attract tourists to rural areas, esp. coastal ones” will be on how to use the tourism potential in rural and coastal regions in a sustainable way. To this end the priorities will be on the methodology of product and service development and in a second step on how to make them accessible and to promote them. Insights gained in this flagship project shall be shared with flagship project 12.10. Input on the regional potential in the cultural heritage and unique landscapes will be provided to flagship project 12.8. In flagship project 12.8 “Promote the cultural heritage and the unique landscapes” the primary focus will be on identifying relevant activities in that field (gathering of data – contacts, existing and potential projects, stakeholders etc.). The overall objectives are to map the main areas of interest and to revitalise the natural and cultural heritage with regard to their tourism potential. The results of this flagship project add to the activities under flagship project 12.10 directed at profiling a common identity. Finally, the focus of flagship project 12.10 “Strategies for sustainable tourism” is mainly on developing and supporting sustainable tourism, including i.a. a strategic cooperation with BSR stakeholders and organisations, a collection of good practices on sustainable tourism and the upgrade of a sustainability check for tourism projects. A graphical illustration can be found in the download section at the bottom of this page.
