The kick-off event gathered together 40 professionals involved in culture and nature tourism in the coastal and rural areas of the Baltic Sea both educational bodies, entrepreneurs and regional and tourism actors. There were participants from Sweden, Germany, Latvia and many from Finland. It was delightful to see how dedicated the participants networked, discussed and exchanged ideas in the workshops and in the speed business dating -session. Many usefully ideas were shared on how to continue the implementation of the project and how to find new ways to face the challenges in the creation of the network and in the joint product development and promotion. Many new contacts were made and new partners found for the new projects.
As inspiring speakers were heard among other things Priority Area Coordinator of Tourism Wolf Born, marketing manager Evita Malm from Nautics Oy, Aino Suominen from Kannisto Domestic Animal Farm and Hotel chief Tanja Granlund from Kasnäs Archipelago Spa. In the afternoon the participants made a field trip to a sustainable rural tourism destination, Tammiluoto Country Winery.
What was found very interesting and what arised a lot of discussion among the participants, was The Nautics` Sailmate –service, in the world’s first intelligent route planning service for boaters, which combines top Finnish expertise in navigation and technology. Sailmate is also about to expand the markets to Sweden and Estonia to other coutries in the Baltic Sea.
Many new commitments to join the network were made. It was seen cleary that deeper co-operation is needed, as well as the common stories around the BSR need to be created. We can not see other operators as competitors, as many times in the tourism field happens, but we must work together and see the co-operation as strength and resouce.
